I am very proud to have been invited to speak at the British Voice Association’s recent conference day, “Sing Again! Rehabilitating the Singing Voice.”
My talk was titled “Sustainable Singing in Children: Prevention is the Best Cure,” a practical look at some of the challenges that a child singer can face, and how singing teachers can inadvertently exacerbate these challenges. Using physical demonstrations with children singers, I explored how good pastoral care, education, interpretation, and agency create the optimum conditions for progress.
I was honoured to speak alongside such esteemed speakers as Rehab Awad Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist, Nick Hamilton Consultant ENT Specialist and Laryngologist, Linda Hutchison Author and Vocal Rehabilitation Coach, and Rebecca Moseley-Morgan Lecturer Singing Teacher.
