Yesterday I had the honour of designing and delivering a day of vocal health, pedagogy, and artistry talks on behalf of the Association of Teachers of Singing (AOTOS) for our partnership with the National Youth Choir(NYC).

My fellow AOTOS trustees offered stunning talks: Laura Thomas gave a spectacular talk on anatomy of the voice, preserving vocal health, and navigating the multidisciplinary clinic. Joy Naylor gave a wonderful talk about the holistic singer: using your body to beat performance anxiety.

My talk was “Building a Voice from the Bottom Up”, how an understanding of anatomy and breath patterns can provide the basis for not just a healthy voice technique and build stamina, but also unlock artistry and one’s most honest sound.

We had a jolly and stimulating day meeting this year’s cohort of Emerging Professional Artists: Fellows, Young Composers, and Young Conductors, as well as the fabulous Lucy Hollins and the brand new Head of Creative Programmes Carris Jones.

I can’t wait to see how we can develop and enhance this partnership next year!
